Why Jehovah’s Witnesses Don’t See the Contradiction

Jehovah’s Witnesses keep their beliefs in separate categories. Think of them as boxes. Each belief is in its own separate box. And this is key: They never compare or contrast boxes. Thus, when beliefs contradict each other, a JW will never notice. If you show them, cognitive dissonance takes place. You might notice this as silence or a frown as they attempt to process this information. This is a good sign.

Theocratic War Strategy

Have you ever gotten into a discussion with Jehovah’s Witnesses only to have them deny what you thought they believed? You may have been a subject of “Theocratic War Strategy” without realizing it. When a Jehovah’s Witness feels cornered, they often resort to this to defend what they believe. They feel it is imperative to defend the Watchtower Organization because they have been taught that it is Jehovah God’s Organization.

To Beard or Not to Beard: That is the Question

The Watchtower has claimed to have been “chosen by God” for over one hundred years. This is accepted without question by Jehovah’s Witnesses, who also claim to “only believe what’s in the Bible.” If you ask them, “Where can this be found in the Bible?” you will be met with answers like, “Are you an apostate?” or “Are you interested in learning or are you only here to argue?” or a long host of similar questions. The Watchtower organization so heavily discouraged questions that Jehovah’s Witnesses instinctively know better than to ask them. What happens if they do? The elders may haul them into the back room and “counsel them.” Think of it as a verbal spanking with a warning never to do it again. It could go so far as disfellowshipping, throwing someone out of the organization, and shunning them.

One God or Two?

If you ask a Jehovah’s Witness, ‘How many Gods do you believe in?’, they will answer and say “One. We believe in the One true God, Jehovah.” And by that, they mean the Father. However, it quickly becomes apparent, once you start asking questions, that they actually believe in many gods. They don’t realize this because everything they believe is compartmentalized and they don’t compare and contrast what they believe. This is how they can believe contradictory ideas. When you show them this, it causes cognitive dissonance. Let me explain.

Salvation: By Faith in Christ or by Obedience to the Watchtower?

If you ask a Jehovah’s Witness, how can I be saved, chances are you’ll be met with a puzzled look, rather like a deer caught in the headlights. That’s because Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t believe in salvation.

According to the Watchtower, a person must:

  1. Study with Jehovah’s Witnesses, usually at least 6 months.
  2. Attend all meetings
  3. Go out door to door with Watchtower magazines
  4. Associate with the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses
  5. Study for baptism
  6. Answer 100+ baptism questions
  7. Get baptized
  8. Continue attending all meetings, conventions and going out door to door until Armageddon
  9. Continue faithful during the 1,000-year reign of Christ
  10. Continue faithful while Satan is let loose “for a little while”

Why Can’t I Reach a Jehovah’s Witness?

Context is the Key

Ever try to present a Bible verse that doesn’t agree with what the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe, only to have them deny what the Bible clearly says? Often, Christian’s who have either never spoken to Jehovah’s Witnesses or are not familiar with them are totally stymied by their response. Often, they wonder, “Don’t Jehovah’s Witnesses believe the Bible?”

Mighty God vs. Almighty God

BLOG BEST BIBLE AND JESUS

Mighty God versus Almighty God?

Mighty God, little god, angel? The Watchtower actually teaches all three! The Watchtower correctly teaches that Isaiah 9:6 is a prophecy of Jesus and this identifies Him as Mighty God. According to the New World Translation, in John 1:1 Jesus is “a god”, a created god, a lesser god, alongside the Father, therefore they have two gods. And the Watchtower teaches Jesus is Michael the Archangel. When asked what is Jesus, aside from saying He is the Son of God, a Jehovah’s Witness cannot answer, is He Mighty God, little god, or angel? Because the Watchtower actually teaches all three.

Salvation How Is It Found?

COME TO ME ALL YOU WHO ARE WEARY

How is salvation found? By means of faith or by means of an organization? The Watchtower teaches one must be a member of the organization to be saved through Armageddon. Where is this found in Scripture?

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, NOT of works,  lest anyone should boast. Eph. 2:8,9 NKJV

Discussing Revelation 1 with a JW

AND THE WORD BECAME FLESH

A Jehovah’s Witnesses will typically say that Revelation 1:8 is about Jehovah, not about Jesus. How can we overcome this obstacle? It’s simply a matter of examining the entire context of chapter 1 of Revelation, as this is revealed.

First we examine Rev. 1:7 “Look, he is coming with the clouds,”
and “every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him”;
and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.”
So shall it be! Amen.

The heavenly hope, is it for everyone?

CHILDREN OF GOD

The Watchtower Organization would have you believe that the heavens are reserved for a limited number of people, only 144,000. Where do they get this idea? From the book of Revelation, chapters 7 and 14 the only two places where this number is mentioned.
